Investigation of Resistance in a Nichrome 32 Wire Essay Example

Investigation of Resistance in a Nichrome 32 Wire Essay In this project I will be investigating how the length of Nichrome wire will affect the resistance. All length, cross section area, temperature and type of material are the factors that affect resistance. I will be keeping these variables constant besides length. To carry out this experiment I will set up a simple circuit and carry out a series of trials measuring voltage and current using different lengths of wire.Prediction:I predict that when the length of the Nichrome 32 wire is increased the resistance will also increase equally. The resistance increases as the length increases because the electrons that are passing through the wire collide with the metal atoms of the wire. The more you increase the length of the wire, the more collisions there will be between the metal atoms and electrons. The collisions that occur produce heat energy which is caused by friction. I predict that if you double the length of the wire the resistance will also double.Fair Test:To make this a fair te st I will keep certain variables the same, only changing the length of wire. The variables I will keep the same consist of the power supply so I dont send more power to the electrons to go around, and temperature so that it doesnt affect the resistance of the wire because increase of the temperature increases the resistance of the wire. I also want to keep the cross section area of the wire the same because as I increase the cross sectional area resistance will decrease. These should stay the same to make sure that the experiment goes accordingly and resumes being a fair test. In this case I can carry out my experiment without having to worry about anything going wrong and it also allows my results to be more accurate.Equipment:* Ammeter* Voltmeter* Low Voltage Power Supply* Variable Resistor* Connecting Wires Crocodile Clips* Wires Of Nichrome 32 (all the same diameter)Method:1. Set up a circuit as shown in the diagram above.2. Measure a 100cm length of Nichrome 32 wire and connec t it to the circuit.3. Set power supply to 6 volts DC and turn on.4. Record the current and voltage and quickly turn off the power supply.5. Between each reading, allow the wire to cool and change the variable resistor.6. Repeat steps 3 5 two more times.7. Change length of wire to 90cm, and repeat steps 3 6. Repeat the process for all the lengths as shown in the table.Health Safety:Evaluation:Test Results (Preliminary Work):Length (cm)VoltageCurrentResistance (ohms)100.640.341.88201.110.313.58301.320.304.40401.690.266.54502.140.258.56602.470.2310.8702.630.2211.43803.060.2015.25903.100.1916.321003.150.2016.5789Test Results (1):Length (cm)VoltageCurrentResistance (ohms)102.092.600.80202.812.211.27303.121.591.96403.881.103.52504.050.974.17604.440.894.98704.690.746.33805.070.687.45905.200.618.521005.300.569.46Test Results (2):Length (cm)VoltageCurrentResistance (ohms)101.111.340.83201.531.291.18301.960.942.08402.360.743.18502.980.724.13603.540.854.16703.440.546.37803.910.537.37904.17 0.498.511003.990.439.50Test Results (3):Length (cm)VoltageCurrentResistance (ohms)100.941.020.92201.080.901.20301.540.742.08401.980.653.04502.500.604.16602.960.585.10702.900.466.30803.190.447.25903.610.458.021003.520.379.51Average Resistance:Length (cm)Average Resistance (ohms)100.80 + 0.83 + 0.92 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 1.93201.27 + 1.18 + 1.20 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 2.85301.96 + 2.08 + 2.08 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 4.73403.52 + 3.18 + 3.04 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 7.71504.17 + 4.13 + 4.16 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 9.68604.98 + 4.16 + 5.10 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 10.84706.33 + 6.37 + 6.30 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 14.80807.45 + 7.37 + 7.25 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 17.23908.52 + 8.51 + 8.02 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 19.701009.46 + 9.50 + 9.51 à ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ 3 = 22.13

Teens Pregnancy Between Ages 15-19 Essays

Teens Pregnancy Between Ages 15-19 Essays Teens Pregnancy Between Ages 15-19 Essay Teens Pregnancy Between Ages 15-19 Essay Essay Topic: Teens Nakeda Denise Ford Imagine an average group of teenage girls still in high school that have always done everything together. They make straight A’s in school and belong to a wealthy family, and soon they decide to come up with a pack. The pack is for every one of them to become pregnant by their boyfriend or a random guy. Planning the pregnancy pack, the girls are unaware of the consequences that their actions may bring them. Now picture a young female around the age of sixteen who feels very unwanted and unloved by society and even her own parents. Feeling abandoned and alone, she decides to become pregnant to fulfill the need of love. The next young women seems to have fallen in love with her new boyfriend believing he is the answer to her problems, but he seems to be pushing away from her and starts to pursue other females. Feeling as if she has no control over the situation, she decides to become pregnant believing that a child will bring them closer together. Only she succeeds at bringing them farther apart. What do these three cases have in common? What may lead these young girls to become pregnant, and why does pregnancy seem to be the solution to their problem? There are many answers to these questions. The following examples will explain what kind of situation and what state of mind influences these girls to become pregnant. One reason could be that teens see others female pregnant or to keep their relationship stable. Another reason teenager gets pregnant because of loneliness. There are also other contributors of teen pregnancy. Teenagers today are having sex at a young age thinking that they are responsible and able to take care of a baby. Teen pregnancy can also result because of a lack of sex education and birth control in schools. Young females of this generation do not think of the consequences before they go out and engage in something that can seriously affect their future. To better present the ideas within this paper, it is necessary to give a definition of teen pregnancy. In 2006 the total number of live births per 1,000 women aged 15-17 was 22. and for women around the age 18 and 19 the number was 73. 0, both instances the first increase since 1991(Kendall 495). Teen pregnancy rates are becoming higher every year. Although many teens decide to become pregnant for the several reasons, they fail to think about other aspects related to their pregnancy, but rather focus on the one reason for them choosing to become pregnant. Teenagers who are becoming pregnant have a higher risk of running into social aspects and economic issues. According to Kendall, teenage pregnancies are a popular topic in the media and political disclosures, and the United States has the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the Western industrialized world (Kendall 495). Young women today gain the attention from the community by becoming pregnant. Many times, this attention is exactly what they need. In today’s society, becoming pregnant is like a cycle. Everyone is trying or planning to do it. Teenagers sometimes get pregnant because they see other females pregnant. According to Miller, some girls may see their friends having babies and then decided to get pregnant themselves just to get the same attention they have witnessed given to others (Miller 17). When young women begin to feel like this, they may be experiencing low-esteem and the lack of family involvement. Interviewing a friend she stated, â€Å" If her parents acted like a parents she would not have to be in the situation she’s in now. † If parents today take the time out to pay more attention to their children, they would not need to turn to their peers or to others in the community for attention. If teens have someone to give them advice about pregnancy and explain to them all factors associated with making the decision to become pregnant, such as putting education first, then maybe not decide differently. Many teenage girls see themselves as having nothing to strive for like graduating from high school because they have few role models to follow, their teachers give them little encouragement about their abilities, and friends are becoming pregnant. Parenting looks like the best thing going, any girls think, because babies provide an immediate source of unconditional love, Parrot said. Teens in foster care are more likely to get pregnant than teens that are at home with their parents. In fact, teen girls in foster care are two and a half times more likely than those not in the system to experience a pregnancy by age 19 (Blick 16). This may happen because of the family related issues. They see what other teens in foster care are doing and seek to do the same to gain attention as well. Again, no one is there to give them advice. Young adults may experience struggles in their relationship and may be able to sense when their spouse wants out. Thinking that becoming pregnant will somehow savage their relationship, most females find the need to get pregnant to mend a broken or unstable relationship, their young and undeveloped minds seem unable to comprehend the dangers involved in teenage pregnancy. Some teenagers try to become pregnant to keep their relationship stable. Even if their boyfriend decides to stay with the for child shake, the problems will still be there, and will only resurface later on. When becoming pregnant the female will have to deal with the stress and other things that come along with the pregnancy and the relationship may end. Teenager also become pregnant because they know the father will be there for her and the baby. In most article they explain to there readers about how fathers neglect there children but there are some fathers out there who are willing to take care what there. Maybe that is why teens get pregnant to try to find the same kind of treatments. In some cases, older teenagers who have decided to get married may decide to get pregnant to start a family early (Miller 15). Most young women believe in getting married at a young age before getting pregnant because of their religion. These cases are very rare because almost 71 percent of females are unmarried or live with their baby fathers (Miller 16). Adolescent’s females have a weak mind especially when it comes to men. Young women seem to get pregnant to support their financial need for her and her male partner by becoming pregnant. Young women become pregnant, not because the value children, but because of the amount of benefits they receive (Stewart 1). By been place on welfare young women think becoming pregnant will be their solution to their problem. Fertile welfare receipts is actually lower than the fertility rate among women not on welfare (Stewart 1). It is best for welfare program to invest in each home and help young teens get a job. Young teenager believe in getting pregnant by older men. They fill that an older man can take care of them and fulfill their financial needs by supporting them and the baby. Been with an older man they believe that the relationship may work. This information may and may not be true because some men bail out on women after they become pregnant. Some men are unable to take care of her and the baby. Abusive relationship can also cause a female to become pregnant. According to Miller twenty –six percent of girls reported their partners were actively tiring to get them pregnant by manipulating condom use, sabotaging birth control and making explicit statements about wanting them pregnant (Miller1). An abusive relationship can affect the female in many ways causing her to be afraid her partner and listening to his commands. Think of forced sex as an aspect of abusive relationships, but this takes that abuse a step further to reproductive control of a young womans body (Miller 1). † When teenager seem be in an abusive relationship she tends to be scared of her partner and have know one to turn to. When young women seem to say their partner want a baby instead of them mostly there involved in a abusive relationship. The biggest issue teens face is been lonely. Many teenagers today do not have a father figure which causes them to become pregnancy because of the Piaget, J. The Moral Judgement Of The Child. New York: The Free Press, 1965.

A Slip Of The Lip

A Slip Of The Lip A Slip Of The Lip A Slip Of The Lip By Sharon Its easy to trip up when speaking or writing, but what do you call the results when you do? A few weeks ago, I wrote about eggcorns. These are errors in which people guess wrongly the meaning, origin and spelling of certain expressions. An example would be writing or saying flaw in the ointment instead of fly in the ointment. Another error, made famous by Sheridans Mrs Malaprop, is the malapropism. If you mean to say one thing, but use a similar sounding word that means something completely different, then thats what youve done. Example: A rolling stone gathers no moths. (moss) Similar to an eggcorn, but usually taking place with songs and poems, is the mondegreen. In the song The Bonny Earl of Murray, the line (hae laid) him on the green was misconstrued as Lady Mondegreen. Other examples of mondegreens, collected by journalist Jon Carroll, include: Climb Every Woman (Im Every Woman, by Chaka Khan) I Was Barney Rubble (I Was Born A Rebel, by Tom Petty) Falling on my head like a newt in motion (falling on my head like a new emotion, from Here Comes The Rain Again, Eurythmics) Many more mondegreens are available here (Update: SFGate article no longer online). Finally, spoonerisms result from transposing the initial sounds of words. Named after clergyman William Archibald Spooner, the resulting words usually provoke gales of laughter. Examples from Spooner himself include: It is now kisstomary to cuss the bride. (customary to kiss the bride) You have tasted two worms (wasted two terms) Our Lord is a shoving leopard (loving shepherd) Many more Spoonerisms are available on Fun with Words. Assignment - Essay Example The health care sector is highly complex and therefore requires utmost efficiency in terms of making decisions. When making decisions concerning a given problem or situation it is necessary to first make sure that the problem at hand is well understood. A detailed analysis of the problem may be laid down in a bid to ensure that the decisions made leave no loop holes. Failure to understand the situation or problem in play may lead to wrong decisions without having solved the real problem. For instance, a research showed that experienced nurse executives make quick decisions without â€Å"a thorough analysis, a strategy that may result in the right decision for the wrong problem† (Effken, Verran, Logue, and Hsu 2010, p.3). This implies that an analysis of the problem plays a great role in making the right decisions. After the analysis, all possible solutions should be stipulated in line with the situation at hand. All alternatives presented should be received with an open mind and an alternative should only be dismissed due to its inability to provide a solution and not just because it may be unpleasant to a particular individual. Carefully considering all alternatives the best one should be identified followed by a suitable execution plan. Having taken the best course of action, it is highly likely that the right decision will be made. Effective decisions should give solutions to the root causes not just the general problems thereby ensuring that the problem is not frequently recurrent. This may be particularly important in nursing to ensure that the diagnosis given attains full cure of the patients. In making managerial decisions, it is important to first try to predict the implications at each level since they affect the whole organization. Effective decision making is important since it leads to achievement of organizational goals. Realization of the set objectives is only possible through cooperation across the entire

Leaqdership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Leaqdership - Essay Example Inequity is posited to create tension, which motivates an individual to restore equity. This restoration of equity can be accomplished in a number of ways. Outcomes can be altered, objectively or psychologically; inputs can be altered, objectively or psychologically; comparative referents can be changed; or an individual can leave or psychologically withdraw from the situation. As Greenberg (1989) pointed out, however, equity research offers little guidance as to when psychological adjustments rather than objective adjustments will occur. Complicating the matter further, psychological adjustments are difficult to measure and validate. Equity theory predictions about reactions to inequity have been tested primarily in laboratory experiments. The typical experiment involves (a) subjects performing a task, (b) distribution of a monetary reward and performance feedback, and (c) measurement of performance on a subsequent iteration of the task. Situations of inequity are set up through the manipulation of rewards and performance feedback, and individual responses to these inequitable situations are measured. As reviews of equity research have pointed out (Goodman & Friedman, 1971; Greenberg, 1982, 1987; Walster et al., 1978), these laboratory studies have shown that equity perceptions can significantly alter individuals performances. However, these studies have been largely â€Å"one-shot affairs† (Homans, 1982, p. xv) and have typically not allowed time for performance–outcome expectancies to develop among subjects. Subjects who decrease their performance when faced with perceived underreward probably do not view this decrease in performance as leading to decreased future rewards. By the 1950s, several new models of work motivation emerged, which collectively have been referred to as content theories, since their principal aim was to identify factors associated with motivation. Included here is Maslows (1954) need hierarchy theory, which

The Biography of Bob Marley Essay example -- Bob Marley Music Biograph

"I love the development of our music, that's what I really dig about the whole thing. How we've tried to develop, y'know? It grows. That's why every day people come forward with new songs. Music goes on forever." --Bob Marley, August 1979 We remember the brilliant and evocative music Bob Marley gave the world; music that stretches back over nearly two decades and still remains timeless and universal. Marley has been called "the first Third World superstar," "Rasta Prophet," "visionary," and" "revolutionary artist." These accolades were not mere hyperbole. Marley was one of the most charismatic and challenging performers of our time. Bob Marley's career stretched back over twenty years. During that time Marley's growing style encompassed every aspect in the rise of Jamaican music, from ska to contemporary reggae. That growth was well reflected in the maturity of the Wailers' music. Bob's first recording attempts came at the beginning of the Sixties. His first two tunes, cut as a solo artist, meant nothing in commercial terms and it wasn't until 1964, as a founding member of a group called the Wailing Wailers, that Bob first hit the Jamaican charts. The record was "Simmer Down," and over the next few years the Wailing Wailers -- Bob, Peter Mclntosh and Bunny Livingston, the nucleus of the group -- put out some 30 sides that properly established them as one of the hottest groups in Jamaica. Mclntosh later shortened his surname to Tosh while Livingston is now called Bunny Wailer. Despite their popularity, the economics of keeping the group together proved too much and the two other members, Junior Braithwaite and Beverley Kelso, left the group. At the same time Bob joined his mother in the United States. This marked the en... ...der for the following winter. At the end of the European tour, Bob Marley & The Wailers went to America. Bob played two shows at Madison Square Garden but, immediately afterwards he was seriously ill. Cancer was diagnosed. Marley fought the disease for eight months. The battle, however, proved to be too much. He died in a Miami Hospital on May 11,1981. A month before the end Bob was awarded Jamaica's Order of Merit, the nations' third highest honor, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the country's culture. On Thursday, May 23,1981, the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley was given an official funeral by the people of Jamaica. Following the funeral -- attended by both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition -- Bob's body was taken to his birthplace where it now rests in a mausoleum. Bob Marley was 36 years old. His legend lives on.

Character Analysis: “Everyday Use” Essay

The mother in this story has lived a hard, long life, doing the job of a man, never complaining, just doing the things to survive. Then we have her daughter, Dee, who I picture as never having broken a sweat in her life. As a child she hated her house, her living, her culture. When the fire had burnt down the old house, she just sat there in amazement under an old gum tree, as if she wanted to dance in the ashes. She did all this while her mother was carrying Maggie, with arms burnt so bad they were sticking to her, and whose hair was singed and smoking with the foul stench of burning flesh. Why then, if her heritage means so much to her, didn’t she lift a finger to save any of the house or items in it? Instead she sat under a tree admiring the disaster that was taking place. Like the house, her family was of little importance to her. She was ashamed of their lack of knowledge and seemed very much bothered by the poverty in which she lived. In her mind, to be important was to be worldly. To have riches and â€Å"style† were what mattered, not her family. It’s ironic how when she was younger she could not wait to get out of her lifestyle, but now she claims her culture is important to her. She even goes through the extent of changing her name since in her mind, â€Å"Dee† was the name given to her by her oppressors when in reality it was the name passed down by her own family. Dee changes her name to Wangero Lewaninka Kemanjo, which supposedly goes back to her African roots. The mother passively accepts the change with no argument. She doesn’t even say a word when Dee takes the churn top off the butter churner that has milk in it that has already clabbered, and claims it as her own. Dee doesn’t even stop to think that it’s still in use, just that she wants it and that’s that. The mother’s slowly being nudged and pushed; like the cow she doesn’t mind! Then Dee demands that she be able to take the two quilts that were made by her grandma. When the mother claims that the quilts were promised to her sister Maggie, Dee gets furious, stating that Maggie can’t appreciate them. She’ll ruin them by using them everyday. Dee is trying to gain a culture that she believes comes from objects like the churner and the quilts. But her idea of culture is something to be hung on a wall, put on display. She has no idea that culture comes from knowing and living the culture. To them it is a way of life; to Dee, it is the â€Å"in† thing to do. I feel that the mother finally sees this in Dee and doesn’t respect it. So for the first time in the mother’s life, the cow was milked the wrong way and had begun to kick. She snatches the quilts out of Dee’s hands and throws them into the arms of Maggie. Furiously stomping out of the house, Dee shouts, â€Å"You don’t understand!† â€Å"What?† exclaims her mother. â€Å"Your heritage,† Dee responds. The final words Dee says are, â€Å"It’s really a new day for us. But from the way you and mama still act, you’d never know it.† How is it that she doesn’t even realize a simple statement? She never has and she never will have this culture. Culture is not all art, it’s not something you turn on and off: it’s life.
